VOL. XVII, NO. 8
In recent varsity wrestling action the Maine West Warriors were defeated twice, thus ending a six‑meet winning streak.
On Friday, Jan. 23, the Warriors traveled to Glenview where they met an "emotionally high" Glenbrook South squad. Rob Krusinski (forfeit), Dave Cavazos (7-3), and Bob Smith (6-3) were West's only winners.
On Saturday, Jan. 24, Maine West redeemed themselves by defeating three opponents: Ridgewood (36-22), Lake View (46-11); and Dunbar (55-5) at the Ridgewood triple-dual meet. The Warriors had six wrestlers win all three of their bouts. They were Pat Brabec, Rob Krusinski, Mike Tramel, Lou DePasquale, Dave Cavazos, and Bob Smith. Rick Gauger, Craig Beam, Dan Cavazos, and Luke Praxmarer recorded double wins.
Maine West's winning ways were again halted as the Maine East Demons upset the Warriors 25-24. The Warriors, who were early season conference champ favorites, dropped to 4-2 in the CSL. West's only winners were Mike Tramel (pinning in 3:52), Lou DePasquale (pinning in 4:45), Dan Cavazos (19-4), and Dave Cavazos (7-4). Rick Gauger (5-5) and Bob Smith (2-2) both tied.
The varsity record to this point stands at 13-6 while the sophomores are 10-3, and the freshmen record is 6-8.
The Warrior grapplers will end their regular season tonight against the league leading Niles East Trojans here at Maine West. The Warriors will travel to Ridgewood for the district meet which begins next Friday.
