Student, Faculty Efforts To
Produce Musical
Maine West's musical this year is Rodger and Hammerstein's production, Oklahoma. Performances will be held on Mar. 17, 18, 19, and 20 in the school auditorium. Tickets are $2 and $2.50. They are available in the bookstore, as well as White Oak Drugs and Johnson's Sporting Goods. All the seats will be reserved.

On opening night, Thursday, Mar. 18, door prizes will be given during intermission. The prizes are two $50 savings bonds, dinners at surrounding restaurants, and tickets for free pizzas.

Both students and faculty are working hard to finish costumes and props for the show. Mr. George Blanas, chairman of the Art Department, and Sara Kunesch '76, an Art IV student, are in charge of the costume design. Both have tried to make the costumes as original as possible. Mr. Blanas said, "Within a limited budget, the challenge is to get authenticity. Also Oklahoma will use colorful and fresh costumes in contrast to the outdoor vastness of the American West. It will make a pleasing contrast."

Ms. Nancy Santori, with her student director Carole Lambdin '77, is the dramatic director. Mrs. Sally Schulenburg is the choreographer for Oklahoma. Mrs. Schulenburg is the sponsor of the Orchesis Dance Club and assistant girls' gymnastics coach. The student choreographers are Anne Kuite '76 and Michelle Moscinski '77.
Mr. Bruce Nelson, English teacher, is in charge of set design and is the technical director. Mr. Nelson said one of his main problems was using the same scenery to depict two different settings. Mr. Nelson must find props of the American West such as saddles, rockers, a surrey, butter churns, and a Franklin stove. Pam Damasky '77 is Mr. Nelson's student assistant.

The main characters of the play have been double cast. Eric Suevel '77 and Bruce Weaver '77 will play Curley McLain; Annette Buck '77 and Sandra Harris '76 will share the part Laurie Williams; Carrie Mack '76 and Amy Sheetz '77 will play Ado Annie Carnes; and Scott Jackson '76 and Joe Anderson '76 will play Will Parker.

Others students cast in other main roles are Mary Jo Zalabac '76 as Aunt Eller Murphy; Steve Pelinski '77, Ali Hakim; Kevin Marquette '78, Andrew Carnes; James Evans '77, Jud Fry; Scott Olson '77, Ike Skidmore; and Amy Robinson '77, Gertie Cummings.

Sponsoring the production of the play is Maine West's Music Booster Club and the Music Department.
