Ray Letto Promoted
By RAY BARRY

Raymond Letto, Jr., Class of 1974, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond F. Letto, was promoted from E-1 (recruit) to E-3 (PFC) last month. This young man joined the Army on graduating from Maine West in June, 1974.

He is stationed at Fort Roucker, Alabama, and is with the Forty‑sixth Engineering Battalion, Company B. I was informed by Mr. Letto, Sr. that while his son was in Maine West he played football and baseball during his freshman and sophomore years.

At this time he was a member of M‑Club and Ski Club at Maine West. I also found that Ray Letto was for two years the president of the Rifle Club which is sponsored by the Des Plaines Police Department. Ray has been with the Army since last June 8.

His father explained to me the reasons his son joined the Army. "While Maine West has prepared my son well for life outside, it is hard to find jobs; thus, he joined for money reasons, as well as a desire to seek a career in the heating and air conditioning business."
He is part of an outstanding group at his base, and he is an expert marksman for which he has won a good marksmanship medal. He has gone from E-1 to E-3 in six months although it normally takes a year.

For the next few years Raymond Letto, Jr. will be spending his life in the Army. His father had this to say: "The Army is a good place for a young man even if not going to college. It is a way for a person to learn a career or a living."
