Gymnast Qualifies For State Meet
The varsity boys' gymnastics team fared well at the district meet with five members of the team qualifying for the sectional meet. Patrick Dent qualified in four events: all‑around, floor exercise, high bar, and parallel bars. John Pifke qualified on still rings; Gregg Trecker on parallel bars; Todd Schludt on trampoline; and Mark Rocque on side horse.

At the sectional meet held at Niles West on Saturday, Feb. 28, the competition facing the Warrior gymnasts was tough. There were at least 28 competitors in each event.

Despite the tough competition, Dent went on to qualify for the state meet with a score of 8.2 in the floor exercise. Dent's routine, smooth and well executed, earned him a fourth place medal. Dent also scored well on other events, with a 6.25 on high bar and a 6.95 on parallel bars. Dent's all‑around average was 5.77.
On still rings Pifke executed a difficult routine containing a good combination of moves, such as an iron cross and a drop double back aerial dismount, to score 6.95. Trecker also made a good showing in the sectionals with a 5.95 on parallel bars. Schludt scored a 5.95 on trampoline, and Rocque scored 5.7 on pommel horse with a difficult routine.

The last dual meet for the team was against Palatine on Feb. 7. The Warrior gymnasts went on to win the meet, 87.38 to 64.51.
