Auditorium Stage To Be Expanded

Over the summer many changes were made at Maine West, and several more are being planned. The major change will be an extensive and long awaited remodeling of the auditorium stage.

The dome of the stage will be raised 40 feet in order to accommodate a fly gallery, which will enable stage sets to be transported by wires. Enlarging the stage will also provide space for easier accessibility, as well as bigger and better storage and dressing rooms. Hopefully, construction will begin near the end of the first semester. While construction is in progress, the hallway between C- and E-wings will be closed. Also, new arrangements will have to be made for bus traffic and detention halls.
Over the summer, new carpeting was installed in H-209 to provide better acoustics. The varsity baseball diamond, which was unsafe for fielders and had poor drainage, has been completely remodeled. Also, the student parking lot was re-blacktopped; 30 classrooms plus all corridors were painted; and safety glass was installed in the gym windows.

Plans are being made to install new diving boards in the pool, as well as an automatic chlorinator and feeder. The school hopes to purchase automatic security gates for each wing and to build a new storage and maintenance building off of B-wing, near Oakton Street. These new additions will hopefully be completed some time in the near future.
