Gayle Grzebieniak Reigns As 1976 Homecoming Queen

Homecoming 1976 Western Revolution," began Thursday, Sept. 30, with a parade through town and concluded with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, Oct. 2. The highlight of the weekend was the crowning of Gayle Grzebieniak as Homecoming queen.

Gayle was at a loss for words to describe her reaction to being queen, but she said, It was the greatest time of my life - a really neat feeling!" Her court, all seniors, consisted of Debbie Carlstrom, Ann Frase, Margaret Hellmer, Debbie Nicholas, Lynn Roselli, Anna Rossi, Amy Sheetz, and Laura Taylor. They were nominated by the Senior Class, and all students voted for the queen in homeroom assemblies.

The parade left Maine West at 6 p.m. and traveled via Oakton Street, Lee Street, Ellinwood Street, Graceland Avenue, Lee Street, and returned to Maine West via Oakton Street. The parade featured the Concert Band, floats built by classes and various clubs, the Homecoming court, Cheerleaders, Pom Pon girls, and Twirlers.
Next was an outdoor pep rally held in the football stadium. In addition to the announcement of the Homecoming queen, there was a tug-of-war between the freshmen and sophomores, and the juniors and seniors. The juniors were the final winners. The pep rally featured performances by the band, Cheerleaders, Pom Pon Squad, and Twirlers, including afire routine by solo twirler Margie Clem '77.

Last Friday, the sophomore and varsity football teams played Glenbrook North, but both teams lost by scores of 18-0 and 21-7, respectively. During halftime the queen and court were presented, and the winners of the float and window decorating contests were announced. The Class of '78 won the float competition for the third consecutive year. The Pep Club won the window decorating contest. -

The Homecoming festivities concluded with the Homecoming Dance on Saturday, Oct. 2. The theme was "A Carousel of Memories." Entertainment was provided by Sierra. Homecoming queen Gayle Grzebieniak reigned over the dance.
