Stickmen Start Over

A new coach, a young team, and a tough schedule is what the Maine West varsity golf team had to contend with as they started the new season

After nine meets the Warriors were 3-6 under new Coach Eugene Zuccarini who replaced the retired Mr. Ken Olson. The wins have come over Rolling Meadows, Maine North, and Evanston. On Sept. 7 the Maine West stickmen defeated Rolling Meadows 172-175. Low scorers for West were George Seletos 41, Al Finch 42, Joe Dobbelaere 44, and Mike Franklin 45.
Against Maine North Sept. 9 the Warriors squeaked out a 164-166 win. Seletos again led the Warriors with a brilliant 36; he was followed by Franklin, who shot a 42, and Steve Greuter and Gary Struck who both shot 43.

On Sept. 21 against Evanston, Maine West defeated the Wildkits 165-177. Seletos, Finch, and Dobbelaere all had 41s while Struck followed up with a 42. The Warrior losses were to Prospect, Wheeling, Maine South, Conant, Oak Park, and Maine East.

The frosh-soph team led by Steve Zilleox has had a fine season so far with a record of five wins and three defeats
