Spring Play Rehearsals Begin

This year's Maine West spring 'production is entitled Ladies in Retirement, written by Edward Percy and Regionald Denham and will be directed by Mr. Daryl Schultz. Ladies in Retirement is classified as a psychological melodrama or more commonly named, a mystery‑drama.

In an effort to accommodate the countless number of outstanding female performers, this specific play was chosen over the previously planned script because Ladies in Retirement call for six major female parts. This is a play which was successfully performed in New York.

As the play begins, the first scene opens in an old country estate situated in England. A retired actress, Miss Fisk, and her dear companion Ellen invite three eccentric and simple minded sisters to visit. When the time arrives for the sisters to depart, Miss Fisk and Ellen find it very difficult to get the doubting sisters to leave. In fact, they invite themselves to stay a bit longer.

This seemingly innocent setting gives way to suspense, intrigue, and murder. Clue by clue the resolution is slowly revealed and then the play comes to an astonishing end.

The rehearsals for Ladies in Retirement began on Monday, Apr. 11. Mr. Schultz, commented, "We feel that this is a very outstanding play to produce, not only because of the subject matter or the interesting characters but because of the new and interesting types of staging that we will be using."
