In everyone's life there is the rainy day when absolutely nothing is found to do. But to occupy this time lag, most everyone has acquired a hobby or two.
Hobbies are an important part of American entertainment; however, some hobbies that prove interestng for one may totally revolt another. For instance, how many of you have ever considered the art of housing 10,000,000 live, red ants? Or what about the old‑fashioned hobby of swallowing wiggling goldfish?
Throughout the years hobbies have changed and rechanged just as fads have come and gone. There have always been some hobbies which were more outstanding and popular among the majority than others.
In the fifties the more common hobbies included dance marathons, rollerskating, and collecting autographed pictures of Clark Gabel, Marilyn Monroe, and other famous movie stars. For the more intellectual of that day, crossword puzzles, needlepoint, and collecting dolls were extremely popular. For the daring and outgoing sort, some of their favorite hobbies would be attempting to break world records, drag racing, and sneaking into the movies.

Here in the seventies we still see hints of those hobbies around. In fact, many people still find collecting numerous amounts of whatever and becoming master minds at world search puzzles a very peaceful and enjoyable way of occupying unfilled time.
But it seems that the teenagers of today find more excitement and prefer to fill their time with adventurous type hobbies. The popular hobbies now days seem to call for a more athletic person. These hobbies also require a vivacious "get up and go" attitude.
The hobbies that have succeeded in obtaining the interest of a very large per cent of the high schools students today have been found to be outdoor and indoor sports activity: bicycling, horseback riding, camping, music, motorcycle riding, and dancing. However, among these students there are some who say that they don't have any hobbies. But that is just what they say, of course; they probably chose not to reveal them!
There is always a moment in everyone's life when social activity lessens and you just feel like doing something different, so besides sitting around and doing nothing .. why not consider taking up a hobby?
