Girls' Softball Team Starts New Season

The girls' softball team got off to a good start by defeating Maine South on both levels. The varsity won 28‑7 and the junior varsity won 11‑9. The winning pitchers for the varsity and junior varsity were Nancy Habetler and Sue Zuccarini, respectively.

On Apr. 21 the varsity Warriors won a decisive battle over the Maine South Hawks. The Warriors got off to a slow start. The Hawks scored five runs in the first inning. But, in the last half of the first, the Warriors put together 11 big runs. The Hawks added one run in the third and one run in the fifth. In the last half of the third inning Nancy Habetler came to bat with the bases full. She hit a grand slam to score four more runs; three other runs scored that inning. In the fourth the Warriors continued to score more runs totaling seven for that inning.

The game went to five complete innings before it was called on a count of darkness. Debbie Carlstrom was 2 for 4 and Irene Weingartner was also 2 for 4. Nancy Habetler was the winning pitcher. She gave up six hits and six walks.

The junior varsity posted a 11‑9 victory over Maine South. Mary O'Donnell is the leading batter with a .750 average and has batted in five runs. Sue Zuccarini was the winning pitcher with three strike outs. Ms. Barb Jones, junior varsity coach, stated that the girls played a good defensive game under bad playing conditions.
