American Education Week Takes Place Nov. 14-20

American Education Week

American Education Week is Nov. 14-20. This year's theme is T he Schools Are Yours. Help Take Care of Them." Mr. Daniel Silkowski, chairman of the English Department and spokesman for American Education Week, urges the public to visit the schools in their area. In accordance, Maine West held an Open House last night and will hold another one Nov. 9. First Quarter Ends

The first quarter ends next Wednesday, Nov. 10.

Choraliers Chosen

The 1976-1977 Maine West Choraliers were chosen recently. They are Bill Atherton '78, Annette Buck '77, Ken Bunce '78, Barb Erwin '78, Mark Gordon '77, Gayle Gyssler '77, Ed Hajost '77, Becky Henkes '78, Ann Laughlin '78, Jane Mahon '79, Steve Pelinski '77, Yvonne Pytlik '79, Janice Teague '78, Steve Pelinski '77, Yvonne Pytlik '79, Janice Teague '78, Connie Urbas '77, Stacey Walgreen '78. Choraliers perform all types of music that range from contemporary to classical.

Financial Aid Meeting

Parent Teacher Counselor (PTC) is sponsoring a financial aid program on Thursday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. in L-101. All parents and students are invited. Some of the things that will be discussed are the importance of applying for admission early, where the money comes from for financial aid, how to apply, and what kinds of financial aid there are.
National College Fair

Another college night is taking place in Chicago at McCormick Place, Twenty-third Street and the Lake, on Friday, Nov. 12, at 10 am. to 4 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. and again on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A special activity from the Maine District 207 will be three computers to provide and gather information for students on colleges and such.

Speech Team Takes Second

On Oct. 16 the Speech Team took second place out of 38 schools in the Northeastern University Invitational. Individual trophy winners were Carola Weis '78, third place; Joanne Jerger '77, fifth place; and Steve Pelinski, '77, fifth place on the varsity level; and on the J.V. level Jill Peckenpaugh '78, fourth place; and Kathy Sandford '78, fifth place.

Two Seniors Receive Awards

Senior James Acker received the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement Award in writing for 1976.

On Sept. 20, Debbie Speciale '77, president of the first period Office Occupation Club, was elected chairperson of areas 14-15 of the Office Education Association.

New Teacher Receives Honor

Mr. Steve Zimmermann, a new addition to the Industrial Education Department, as chosen recently as Secretary-Treasurer of the Illinois Woodworking Teachers Association 1976-77.
