The Illinois State Scholarship Commission (ISSC) has announced this year's Illinois State Scholars. Out of the nearly 30,000 students who applied for this honor, approximately 12,000 were chosen.
The 1977-78 winners applied last year when they took the ACT test. They qualified on the basis of their ACT scores and high school achievements. Names of State Scholars are sent to various colleges throughout the country that seek out these students for admission. In addition, each State Scholar receives a Certificate of Merit in recognition of his achievement.
