Jim Kennelly, a junior at Maine West, and co‑worker Jim Dash, a senior at Maine East, have been credited with saving the life of a Des Plaines woman in the Casa Royale Restaurant on Sunday. Dec. 5.
Ms. Elizabeth Wuts was in the restaurant attending an anniversary party when she choked on a piece of food. Mr. Bud Dash, assistant manager of the restaurant, was eating dinner in the basement of the building when he was notified of the incident. He immediately rushed up the stairs and began to pump

the woman's rib cage and then administered mouth to mouth resuscitation. Mr. Dash had been making little progress, and Ms. Wuts' face was turning bluish-gray.
Jim Dash got behind her and started to lift her chest to dislodge the food particle. He and Kennelly took turns trying to help her. This procedure is taught in health classes at the Maine schools. Then the younger Dash reached down and pulled the piece of meat out.
Soon after, paramedics arrived and took Ms. Wuts to Holy Family Hospital for further treatment.
