Spikers Work Hard To Achieve Success

The girls' volleyball teams work long and hard each night. Proof of this was the result of their playing in their first games of the season.

The freshman team showed examples of sportsmanship and great spirit as they battled out three tough games against Maine East, Niles North, and Niles East. They played well but lost all three games. However, they had good passes and sets so with some work on spikes and serves, the next games will mean victory.

Victory is what came to the junior varsity team in their first games of the season against Maine East, Niles North, and Niles East. The team showed that they had what is needed to win. On Dec. 9. J.V. came up against the Maine South Hawks. The Hawks were tough competition because they beat the home team in two games.

Behind the serving of Maureen Moeller and Denise Jenderzak points were easy to come by. Karen Plaut, Denise Jenderzak and Colleen O'Donnel set up for Karen Habetler and Wendy Winkelman to lead the team in spiking. Passes were made by Kathy Baumhart, Meg Gravesmill, Heide Jung, and Sue Ragusin. This team has a lot of talent so victories are close at hand.

The varsity team showed much skill in all areas of volleyball. Varsity competition for Maine West is 1 and 3. They They won their game against Niles East but lost to Niles North, Maine East, and Maine South.

With the determination of Ann Arnold. Natalie Homer, Lenne LaRocca, and Irene Weingartener and behind the sets of Debbie Meinke and Jane Stube and the hard driven spikes of Barb Klein and Caroly Miller. the team may have victories in sight.
