Girl Spikers Win 2, Lose 4

The Maine West girls' volleyball team has had a season full of disappointment, learning, and improvement. On Dec. 30 the teams traveled to the New Trier East Invitational. The varsity lost to Barrington, 20‑9, 18‑20, and 20‑16; to Schaumburg, 20‑11, 12‑20, and 20‑12, and to New Trier East, 20‑15, 20‑24. The team played three close matches.

On Jan. 6 the varsity lost to Glenbrook North 21‑19 and 22‑8. Their season record is 3‑12. Jan. 8 took the team to Glenbrook

North for non‑conference play against Waukegan West, Niles West, and Deerfield in which the team won two and lost one.

Coach Royleen Tipton com­mented, "We have a very young team and with what we have learned this year should show great improvement for next year."

One of the outstanding players this season has been Debbie Meinke, a sophomore. As a varsity player, Debbie has been the most consistent setter with great hustle. She is one of the best all‑around players on the team. Other members of the varsity team include Annette Arnold, Karen Habetler. Natalie Homer. Barb Klein, Leanne Larocca, Carolyn Miller, Maureen Moeller, Jane Stube, Irene Weingartner, and Wendy Winkleman.

The junior varsity team finished their season with a record of three wins and four losses. The freshman team finished with a record of no wins and six losses.
