The second Maine West Girls' Winter Sports Award Night will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Awards will be given to members of this year's swimming, tennis, archery, fencing, gymnastics, and volleyball teams.
Ms. Karen Kenyon, chairperson of the Girls' Physical Education Department, will give the introductory speech. Mary Lofgren, girls' sports chairperson of the Maine West Athletic Boosters, will speak. Carolyn Miller, West Women Club president, will give a brief history of WW club.
Coaches from each team will recap their season. The coaches who will be speaking are Ms. Connie Bauman, varsity and junior varsity archery coach and junior varsity volleyball coach; Ms. Peggy Carrol, varsity swimming coach; Ms. Barb Jones, junior varsity swimming coach; Ms. Royleen Tipton, varsity tennis coach and varsity volleyball coach; Ms. Hope Needelman, junior varsity tennis coach; Ms. Karen Kenyon, varsity and junior varsity fencing coach; Ms. Judy Beck, varsity gymnastics coach; and Ms. Geri Henle, junior varsity gymnastics coach.

There are a variety of awards that a girl may receive. The varsity first year award is a six inch letter, a gold pin insert of the appropriate sport, and a certificate. The second year award is a chenille patch and a certificate. The third year award is a plaque and a certificate. The fourth year award is a trophy of the appropriate sports figure and a certificate.
The junior varsity first year award is a four‑inch letter and a gold pin insert of appropriate sport. The second year award is a gold numerals of graduating class and a certificate. The third year award is a chenille patch with JV embroidered in it and a certificate. The fourth year award is a plaque and a certificate. A certificate of participation will be awarded to girls who do not meet award requirements but participated the entire season.
Awards will also be given to a most valuable player from each team. This is the highest award that a girl can receive.
