Girl Gymnasts Improving

The girls' gymnastics team have lost two and won one in recent optional meets. On Jan. 11 Maine competed in a tri‑meet against Glenbrook North and New Trier East. West placed second with a score of 86.10; New Trier East placed third with a score of 78.85; and Glenbrook North took first with a score of 88.40.

West captured the first four places in vaulting at the tri-meet Mary Kay Gerhardt placed first; Jill Heiden second; Else Lopez third; and Kim Kratz fourth. Mary Kay placed fourth on bars and Else third. On the beam Maureen Mukai placed first and Jill third; Jill also placed third on floor. On Jan. 15 the team traveled to the Niles West Invitational and placed fourteenth out of 27 schools.

On Jan. 19 the gymnasts competed at Deerfield and lost with a score of 86.45 to Deerfield's 87.30. Mary Kay placed second in vaulting, third on bars, fourth on beam, and second in floor. Nancy Cacciatore placed fourth in vaulting and fourth in floor. Kim Kratz placed third in vaulting; Else was fifth on bars; Maureen was second on beam; and Barb Rieck placed fifth. Jill Heiden placed first in floor and Lisa Wolf third.

On Jan. 21 Maine competed in a tn‑meet at New Trier West against New Trier and Niles East. Final team scores for the meet were Maine West 91.05, Niles East 84.05, and New Trier 82.90. Mary Kay placed second in vaulting and third in floor; Jill placed third in vaulting and second in floor; Kim placed first in vaulting; Maureen placed first on beam; Else placed first on bars; and Colleen Monahan placed fourth in floor.
