Spikers End Season

The Maine West girls' volleyball season silently came to a close. The varsity left competition with an undeserved record of 1 and 12; junior varsity ended with a record of 3 and 4, and freshman, 0 and 9.

On the whole, this season was not a good one for any of the teams. On the other hand, a large per cent of the girls were new to the team and this year was mainly spent as a learning experience. Now most of the teams are ready to learn from their mistakes and next year produce a strong and experienced team.

One member of the volleyball team made this comment, "In the eyes of the players, this season was of great value. The teams should be really strong because all but one player should be returning."

Juniors who played volleyball this year and who hopefully will be returning next year are Ann Arnold, Leanne LaRocca, Carolyn Miller, Jane Stube, and Irene Weingartener. All the talent and experience that these girls will bring with them next year will definitely be a great factor as to how the teams win.

It is obvious that these teams have much promise to become winners. With the added ability of Maureen Moeller, Denise Jenderzak, Karen Habetler, Hiede Jung, Wendy Winkelman, and Debbie Mienke, the team will definitely be strengthened.

Everyone is looking forward to a winning season next year. Coaches Connie Bauman and Royleen Tipton are ready and hopeful that Maine West will produce a winning volleyball team next year as they have so many times in the past.
