Miss Karen Kenyon, girls' sports coordinator, headed the Girls' Sports Awards program which was held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, in the cafeteria. The awards were presented on both the varsity and junior varsity levels.
The team members voted on the most valuable athlete in their particular sports field. Plaques were presented to Karen Gafrick for her accomplishments in swimming, Mary Kay Gerhardt for gymnastics, and Mary Copeland for fencing. The most valuable player in volleyball was Debby Meinke; in archery, Robin Gulder; and in tennis, Nancy Webber.

On the junior varsity level, Tammy Burk was voted the most valuable in tennis, Sandy Lietzau in swimming, Linda Roeder in gymnastics, Holly Hamilton in fencing, and Maureen Moeller in volleyball.
The coaches of a specific sport choose the most improved athletes. Certificates were presented to Donna Carstens in swimming, Barb Lofgren in gymnastics, and Sue Lindeman in fencing. Leanne LaRocca was the most improved in volleyball, Sharon Vaughn in archery, and Denise Jenderzak in tennis.
The featured speakers on awards night included Mr. James Coburn, principal; Mary Lofgren, girls' sports boosters chairperson; and Carolyn Miller, West Women Club president. Refreshments were provided following the presentation of awards.
