Gymnastics Team, Club To Present Annual Show

The Maine West girls' gymnastics team and club members will hold their annual gymnastics show on Saturday, Mar. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in B‑wing gym. The theme for this year's show is "Headliners ‑ Gymnastics in the News." Megan Peterson '77 who narrated last year's show will be back to narrate this year.

The show will consist of numbers that are related to different sections of a newspaper. They will be performing on bars and beam and vaulting and doing floor exercise at all levels from beginner through advanced. Members of the boys' gymnastics team will contribute to the show by doing tandem tumbling moves with the girls and mini trampoline stunts. The boys will also be doing routines on the trampoline that correspond to the want ads.

Something new this year that will appear at the show is modern rhythmic gymnastics. Modern gymnastics is floor exercise with the added attraction of streamers, ropes, and balls. Modern gymnastics has been performed at the Olympics as exhibition but soon will become a competitive area in girls' gymnastics in the Olympics as well as at high school level competition. There will be three of these modern gymnastics numbers that can be seen at the show.

There will also be a group of pink panthers who pop out of the comics section and characters from the want ads as well as other things that can be found in the daily newspaper.

Tickets are $1 for students and $1.25 for adults and are available from club members, in the bookstore, or at the door.
