Girl Cagers Hold 2 Wins,
5 Losses

The girls' basketball team has competed in seven games so far this season. The varsity has a 2‑5 record, and the junior varsity has a 4‑3 record. Coaches for this year are Mr. Les Jannusch and Mrs. Patti Christeson.

The Warriors opened their season with a victory over Maine North on Jan. 27. Karen Gafrick was top scorer with 21 points, and Wendy Winkleman had 13 rebounds. The final score was 34‑31. On Feb. 3 the Warriors lost to Arlington 59‑29. Top scorer was Karen Gafrick with six points. Sue Kelly had 13 rebounds. On Feb. 8 the Warriors were defeated by Sacred Heart, 38‑33. On Feb. 10 the Warriors posted their second win of the season over Deerfield, 45‑29. The game was close until the fourth quarter when the Warriors pulled ahead and went on to victory.

The Warriors lost their next three games. They were defeated by Glenbrook North, 45‑35; Glenbrook South, 47‑40; and Niles North, 51‑47. Karen Gafrick has been the high scorer in every game this season. Sue Kelly, Nancy Habetler, and Irene Weingartner have been the top rebounders.

The junior varsity team has been improving each game. Debbie Meinke is the team top scorer with an average of 10 points per game. Top rebounders for the team are Sue Zuccarini and Linda Olsen ‑ each averaging 14 rebounds per game. Victories were over Maine North, 34‑25; Sacred Heart, 23‑16; Deerfield, 45‑29; and Glenbrook North, 39‑11.

The Warriors will be traveling to Niles East on Mar. 8. Regional play will start on Mar. 14.
