Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

There was quite a disturbance at our school on Thursday, Mar. 10, about students walking out of the school protesting for open-campus. I as an individual have talked with some of the students who walked out for this cause and truly think they walked out for a good cause.

This event happened directly after homeroom where the students tried to get out of the front entrance but were stopped by some of the faculty. They then proceeded to walk out B‑wing where they were again stopped. Finally, they proceeded out C‑wing where they finally made it out. They then walked around to the front of the school building where they were then chased over to the football field. There they talked to some of the faculty. Then they decided to send six students in to talk with the principal and vice‑principal. While these students where in discussing their views, the police were called. The police came and pulled a few students away from the rest of the demonstrators quite brutally and were set in a paddy‑wagon. The students were then released to go back to the rest of the students. This was a very bad choice on the police, forcefully removing these students. They used too much force in doing this, which is known as police brutality.

I talked to quite a few students who were involved in the demonstration, who were quite set on their views in this matter and still think they are right. A lot of the students who did not take part in the demonstration felt the same way as the students who joined in. Some of the students wanted to join in but couldn't because during their first period classes, the doors were locked so they couldn't join the rest of the students.

We are not two year old children who have to be locked in. This school is beginning to feel like a prison. After talking with some of the faculty, they all said they have no comment. What really is the faculty? Puppets on a string, saying what they are told to say!

The faculty is now meeting and discussing the issue thoroughly. The question is going to be brought up in front of the school hoard. But, if any more demonstrations take place, it will really hurt the cause. The demonstrators are also asking for the whole student body to tell their parents what is going on and asking for parent support through the whole thing. They need the parent support or the cause could be lost.
