Girl Cagers Show Some Improvement

The girls' basketball season came to an end this past week. The‑varsity posted a 2‑9 record, and the junior varsity posted a 5‑6 record. The varsity also lost in their first game of regional play.

On Feb. 25 the Warriors were defeated by Niles West 70‑41. Top scorer for the Warriors was Karen Gafrick. On Mar. 1 the Warriors went against archrivals Maine South. The Warriors were defeated 60‑51. The Warriors showed great improvement over last year's game when they were defeated by 40 points; this year it was only by nine points. The Warriors lost their last two regular season games to Maine East, 62‑50, and to Niles East, 55‑48.

The junior varsity lost to Niles West by a score of 32‑30. They also lost to a strong Maine South team, 41‑20. Mary Kay Gerhardt was team top scorer with 11 points. The Warriors came back and defeated Maine East 22‑21. Mary Copeland was the top scorer for the Warriors with 16 points. The Warriors ended their season with a lost to Niles East by a score of 26‑24. Maureen Moeller was the team top scorer with six points.

The Warriors hosted regionals on Mar. 14, 15, and 17. On Mar. 14 the Warriors went against East Leyden and were defeated 61‑42.

Nancy Habetler was the team top scorer with 20 points. Nancy was also the top rebounder with a total of 18 rebounds.
