VOL. XIX, NO. 1
Annual Variety Show
To Feature 'Visions'
"Visions" is the theme for Maine West's annual Variety Show. The show will open on Thursday, Nov. 17, and run through Saturday, Nov. 19, in the Maine West auditorium.
The theme, 'Visions," is used to tie the different acts of the show together. Most of the acts in the show will be loosely based on something to do with wishes, dreams, fantasies, science fiction, or the supernatural. The theme is general enough that almost any act can fit in with the show.
Today is the last day of tryouts, which will be held at 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the auditorium. For today's tryouts no acts are necessary to try out with. The V show staff will supply skits and songs for students who do not have an act of their own. The student directors, faculty director, and music director will decide which acts will be included in V‑Show. The act captains of those acts will be contacted over this weekend.
The student directors for "Visions" are Fran Kosac '78 and Kevin Marquette '78. The student directors are involved in almost every aspect of the show. Kevin and Fran will help decide which acts will be in the show, write skits, and after the acts are chosen, they will each stage and direct half of the acts.
The choreographers are Dawn Anderson '78, and Corinna Karpiel '78. They have already choreographed four dances for the show. The dances include one tap dance, a ballet number, a chorus line dance, and a jazz number.
The technical assistant for "Visions" is Barb DePasquale '78. She is in charge of coordinating all the crews including lighting, costumes, scenery, props, and make‑up crew. Joni Gages '79 is the publicity director for this year's show. Fran Kosac will also be working as the scenic designer for "Visions."
A new addition to V‑Show is the writing staff. This staff consists of students who write original comedy material for acts in the show. The head of the writing staff is Jeff Stine '78.
The faculty staff members are Ms. Carla Oleck, faculty director; Mr. Paul Magnusson, music director; Mr. Robert Norris, scene design; and Mr. Bruce Nelson; technical director.
Ms. Oleck commented that "so far most of the staff's efforts have been directed at organizing tryouts and encouraging everyone to tryout. Today is the last day of tryouts and everyone who has the interest and energy to be in V‑Show should come after school to try out. Skits and songs will be provided for the students trying out."
