Westerner Encourages Student Participation
As another school year begins, everyone is in the process of adjusting to new teachers and classes. For many students there is a lot more to school than just classes and homework.

This school year District 207 has chosen the theme "Responsibility Education." This year emphasis is being placed on the students' understanding of their responsibility to their school. Participation is the key to success of any school. Most schools would not function without the many clubs and organizations which make up the school's backbone. Students are urged to join clubs and take an active part in the school.

The Westerner, like many other school papers, publishes news of community and school interest. The paper contains information concerning upcoming events and of those activities that already have been held.
The Westerner staff encourages students to participate in the publication of the paper by submitting photography, cartoons, poems, and other original written work. The staff feels that the students should be given the opportunity to express themselves to the student body. Anyone can submit their work to the staff in R-210 or use the box marked Westerner in the main office.

Furthermore, students are also encouraged to express their opinions through a letter to the editor. Every letter must be signed, and names will not be withheld by request.

The Westerner plays an important role in the student body. Suggestions are welcomed and will be thoughtfully considered. The 1977-78 school year looks to be promising and full of excitement for all who participate.
