Desiree Arrives For Year
Desiree Wiegleb is the AFS student this year at Maine West. She is from a suburb near Stockholm, Sweden. She arrived in America in the middle of August. She has been staying at Elizabeth Jordan's house for about three weeks.

Desiree decided to be an AFS student in America after visiting Canada. There she saw an American newspaper. She became interested in finding out how a country made up of the whole world, like America, could work and how so many different kinds of people could live in harmony.

AFS essentials include a fluent use of the language; the student should be academically strong. The student should be warm and out‑going and needs to have extra‑curricular interests.

Desiree, in Sweden, was interested in music and reading. Here she is on the archery team and will be getting into track and fencing.

She spoke of her feelings toward America. "It's a country which has the opportunity to develop yourself. It gives you a real chance. I like it."
