1-1 Record
Gridmen To Face Waukegan East
The Maine West varsity football team is bringing a 1-1 overall record into tomorrow's game against Waukegan East. The Warriors meet East at Waukegan starting at 2 p.m. for their first conference match.

Last Friday night the Warriors defeated Niles North, 13-6. The score was closer than the game actually was as key fumbles and penalties killed a few Warrior scoring threats. Maine West's scoring came on two runs by Bob Aslan, one of 9 yards and one of 25 yards. The Warriors played tough defense as the Vikings' only score came on a 40-yard drive ending with a 7-yard run. Maine West then blocked the Vikings' extra point attempt ending the only offense Niles North showed, as the Warriors' stingy defense repeatedly held North to four downs every time they touched the ball. Key defensive players were Tom Frazier and Vince Webster.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, the Warriors were not quite as successful as they were trounced by a tough New Trier West team, 35-0. The Cowboys are rated fifteenth in the state and are undefeated so far this season. At the start of the game, however, it looked like Maine was going to be the victor as in the Warriors' first offensive series Aslan broke loose for a 47-yard touchdown run, only to have it called back because of a clipping penalty. Moments later, Aslan again broke loose, taking the ball down to the 2-yard line only to have it called back again on a clipping penalty.
After Aslan's last run, Maine's offense was completely shut down and the defense became porous as the Cowboys passed and ran at will.

The junior varsity is bringing a 1-0-1 record into Monday's game.

On Monday, Sept. 12, the junior varsity defeated New Trier West 8-6. Tim Richardson scored the Warrior touchdown after Dave Jackson brought the ball to the 2-yard line. Maine West played tough defense as they held off the Cowboys from inside their 10-yard line a number of times.

Last Saturday defense was the name of the game as the Warriors tied Niles North, 0-0. No serious scoring threat was made by either team on the rain-soaked field.

On the sophomore level, the Warriors are 1-1 going into tomorrow's game. Last Friday, the Warriors defeated Lake Forest Academy, 20-0. Points were scored by Cesar Suarez and Murio Delafeld. On Saturday, Sept. 10, the Warriors lost 13-6 to New Trier West. Maine's lone touchdown was scored by Mark Voss as he ran the opening kickoff 80 yards.

On the frosh level both teams are 1-0 as the A-team defeated Niles North, 44-0, and the B-team won 14-8 over Niles North.
