Soccer Looking To Improve Record
The varsity soccer team heads into its second week of competition sporting a mediocre record of 1-1-1. Last Friday, Sept. 16, the kickers faced Niles North at the away field. After the regulation four quarters were over the score was tied at 1-1.

The lone Warrior goal was scored on a penalty kick by junior Jeff McGlone. Schurz High School, a quarter-finalist from last year's state tournament traveled to West for an afternoon game Sept. 14. Schurz jumped out to an early lead and eventually won the game 3-1. Junior Jim Carlstrom scored for the Warriors.
On Tuesday, Sept. 13, the Warriors were to play away against Oak Park. The game was cancelled because of the unplayable condition of the field. All levels were rained out and will be rescheduled. The time and date of the game has not been announced.

The Warriors opened up their season by handing Hersey a 2-1 defeat on Friday, Sept. 9. Hersey took an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter. Senior Peter Sidi evened the score at 1-1 with a shot that deflected off the Hersey goalie and hit the upper left corner of the goal and went in. Two sophomores combined to put the Warriors ahead to stay. Bob Reda scored with an assist going to Joe Caviller.

Results of games played by the junior varsity, sophomores, and freshman teams were not available at the time of publication.
