Students Receive High Scores
In National Math Contest
Fifty students from advanced and accelerated math classes competed in a match contest on Mar. 14. The purpose of this contest is to compete with challenging math problems on a nationwide basis. The high scorers from Maine West were Kerry Skora '78 with 80 points, Andrew Packard '78 and Jeff Eagner '78 with 85 points, and Rich Gearhart '78 with 80 points. Maine West's team score of 275 points ranked in the top 10 per cent out of all Illinois High Schools.
Illinois results are now being tabulated with the nationwide results. The results are expected in the coming month. In addition to the national contest, Maine West students have competed within the past few months in five Northwest Suburban area competitions. The latest was the Math Field Day held Apr. 13 at Glenbrook South.
Summer School
Information is now available for the 1978 summer school. Information on choice of classes, their length, starting and finishing dates, fees, books, and transportation is available from Mrs. Cademartori, Summer School Secretary, and Mr. Eldon Burk, director. Summer school information sheets are also posted in every classroom. Registration is on the Guidance Office between the hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or call 827-6176, extension 399. The first day of classes is June 19.
Group Interpretation
The Maine West Group Interpretation finished fourth in the sectional tournament on Mar. 18. The students involved in the group interpretation of Robert Frost's poetry were Amy Tuttle '78, Mary McMahon '78, Sheila Wall '80, Janice Johnson '80, Debbie Schumacher '79, and Maureen O'Malley '80,
