Ten Maine West Office Occupations students were eligible to compete in the various contests. A first place trophy went to Ronnie Prosser '78 for her accomplishments in the Typing II competition. Joanna Gutowski '78 won second place in Typing I and third place in Job Interview II, along with a $500 scholarship from Robert Morris Business College. Tandy Thomas '79 placed third in data processing‑keypunch.
Also attending the weekend conference were Tern Heraty 78, for Information Communications I; Mary Hincker '78, for Information Communications II; Gina Catalano '78, for Accounting I; Jane Wagner '78, for Accounting II; Carola Weis '78, for Steno II; Sharon Walsh '78, receptionist; and Debbie Teevans '78, for Steno II.
Altogether there are 24 possible areas of competition in OEA contests. These contests are divided into two categories: cluster and non‑cluster. The cluster events are occupation related contest that test business skills. The non‑cluster events test other skills such as job interview techniques, speaking, and creative abilities.
Ronnie Prosser and Joanna Gutowski qualify to go to the national contests, which will be held in Detroit, Michigan, on Apr. 28‑May 2, to represent Maine West in competition with OEA members from all over the United States.
