Girls Open Track Season
On Thursday, Apr. 11, the girls' track team traveled to Niles West to defeat the Indians. The final score was 67 to 61. Fifty three girls competed, and 18 girls scored from Maine West. Coach William Kiddle said, "The win over Niles West was a great team effort." The Warriors also "found it hard to relate to the metric track that Niles West used but realized that it would benefit them, because by 1980, the whole country will have converted to the metric system," commented Coach Kiddle.

Outstanding performances were recorded by Lisa Payne with a double win in the 100 meters (110‑yard dash) and in the 200 meter hurdles (210‑yards) Jynette Bonniver won in the 500 meter (1/2 mile), and Karen George took second in the 3,000 meter (2‑mile).
The turning point in the meet came when Donna Carstens, Kathy Baumhart, and Linda Olsen took first, second, and third respectively in the 1,500 meter (1‑mile).

Other fine performances came from the relay teams of Shelly Carpentier, Julie Stenstrom, Maureen Moeller, Laura Derken, Dianne Schneider, and Nancy Monahan. Julie Stenstrom also took first place in the 400 meter (410‑yard dash), and Dianne Schnieder in the 110 meter (110‑yard dash) took first.
