VOL. XIX, NO. 10
Girls' Softball Opens Season
The girls' softball team opened their season against Deerfield losing, 20-4. The junior varsity team also lost.
The Warriors were co-champions last year as they tied with Niles West and Glenbrook South for first place (all had 4-2 records). The junior varsity finished with a 2-4 record and fourth place.
The varsity team lost six players from last year's team and have only their catcher, third baseman, and outfield from last year. Debbie Meinke leads the returnees with a sizzling .487 average. Carolyn Miller is the returning third baseman who batted a red hot .390. Other returning varsity members are Annette Arnold at shortstop; Karen Habetler, pitching; Irene Weingartner, first base; and Sue Sullivan, left field.
Sue Zuccarini who was last year's starting junior varsity pitcher will start on the varsity squad. Others from last year's JV team making the varsity squad are Cathy Carstens who will probably start at second base, Jan Schimmel who could fill a spot in the outfield, Mary Copeland catcher, Sue Gancarz who is in the outfield, and Debbie Molinaro.
Two newcomers to the squad are Robin Stocco and Karen Roehrig. Both girls carry plenty of potential.
The JV team looks to be also improved from last year's team.
The Warriors play host to the Niles West Indians on Apr. 25 and then visit the Waukegan East Bulldogs on Apr. 27. Both are games conference. Coaches for the teams are varsity: Ms. Karen Kenyon; and junior varsity: Ms. Barbara Jones.
