Swimmers Win Recent Meets
This year's tankmen continue their season with a victorious record. Coach Scott Chovanec said, "The frosh‑soph team has broken many pool records thus far."
On Mar. 23 there was a home meet against Proviso West. Both the varsity and JV won, 89-82, 85-68, respectively.
Mar. 29 was another good day for the swimmers, defeating Hersey, 110-62, on varsity level and 123-38 on JV.
Glenbrook North was the sight of the next meet, Mar. 31. All three levels lost.
Even though the varsity lost to Prospect, on Apr. 5, 100-70, the JV defeated them, 113-62.
Apr. 7 was the next home meet against Niles West. Both the varsity and JV won, 132-40 and 11-0, respectively.
Last Friday the tankmen were defeated by Glenbrook South on the varsity level, although the JV and the frosh‑soph won.
Outstanding performances have been in the 200‑yard medley relay consisting of Randy Roel, Pete Falstad, Rob McNab, and Kurt Altergott and also Roel in the 50‑yard free. Roel is only 4/100ths of a second from being All‑American. McNab also showed great strength in the 100‑yard butterfly breaking the pool record of 14 years standing.
Coach Chovanec mentioned that "The swimmers have gone far beyond my expectations, and they're having a great season."
