Boy Swimmers Closely
Defeat Maine South
The Maine West varsity swimmers defeated rivals Maine South in what always seems to be a close score no matter what the event, 87‑85.
West's tankmen won the final 400‑yard free style relay event by seven hundreth's of a second to surpass the Hawks and acclaim victory. Kurt Altergott, Steve Seaholm, Kevin Kern, and Darren Horndash combined for the relay and turned in an excellent performance.
Kurt Altergott took the 200 and 500‑yard free style events. Rob McNab took the 200 individual medley and the 100‑yard butterfly, while Randy Roel won the 100‑yard backstroke. All were first place efforts. Tom Stanonis and Todd Schludt took first and second place in diving, respectively.
On the JV level Maine South and Maine West tied 85-85. Leading the Warrior attack were Bob Smuk, Mike Wurster, and Bill Burkhardt. Smuk and Burkhardt led their events, the 100 and 500-yard free styles, respectively. Wurster finished a strong second in both of his events.
