The Maine West track team will travel to the district meet tomorrow. The meet will be held at Crown High School in Carpentersville.
Some of the teams competing will be Prospect, Fremd, Hersey, Palatine, and Hoffman Estates.
On May 15 the track team traveled to Niles West to compete in a tough seventeam conference. The other teams were Maine South, Maine East, Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, Waukegan East, and Niles West.
On May 6 the Warriors placed sixth out of 12 teams, with 34 points, at the Titan Invitational. King High School won the meet with 106 points; the next team was New Trier West with 70; Garragut with 56; and Glenbrook North with 37.
Outstanding performances were turned in, on the varsity level, by Chet Phillips and Tim Monahan, who finished second and third in the pole vault, and also by Simon Shum, who finished fourth in the 440‑yard dash.
At the same invitational the sophomores placed first. The meet results indicate a strong team effort. The two-mile relay team of Norman Krause, Mario Guerrero, Pius Periaswamy, and Dwight Bohne placed first. Bob Fisher turned in two first places in the mile and the two-mile. In the 880-yard run Dwight Bohne placed fourth; he also placed fifth in the long jump.
Mark Voss placed third in the long jump, fourth in the 220‑yard dash, and also anchored the third place 440‑yard relay team. Other members of the team were Craig Drysch, Randy Burk, and Kevin Clifford.
The results in the field events also contributed greatly to the scoring. Wade Ysyak jumped 5 feet 10 inches to capture first place and also the meet record in the high jump. Perry Carlini got fifth place in the shot put; Mario Delafeld got first place in the pole vault; and Marty O'Brien got fifth in the triple jump to round out the scoring.
Coach Ron Brown says, "I'm looking forward to a good season next year."
