Tennis Team Betters Record
The Maine West varsity tennis team extended their record to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in conference with two victories this past week. The Warriors also competed in the conference meet, but results were not available at this time.

The conference season ended with Maine West, Maine East, and the two Glenbrook schools battling it out for first. The conference meet was loaded with talent.

The top men to beat in singles competition will be Glenbrook North's John Clark, Glenbrook South's Eric Karita, Maine West's own Jeff English, and defending champion Ross Lasser from Niles West.

The top doubles teams are defending champions from Maine West, Tom Gebhardt and Bob Wyatt, Glenbrook South's Kirk Vogel and Bill Podulka, and Maine East's Arnie Harris and Jeff Milling.
On May 10 the Warriors defeated Glenbrook North, 3-2. In singles competition number one singles, English lost to Clark, 2-6, 7-5, 1-6. Tom VanVleck, number three singles, also lost, 0-6 and 3-6. Tom Gebhardt remained unbeaten in second singles winning, 6-1, 6-1. The doubles team of Wyatt and Cooper were winners, 6-2, 7-5; and Gerhardt and Unfer also won.

On May 9 the Warriors defeated Maine South, 4-1. In singles English, Gebhardt, and Van Vleck were all winners. The doubles team of Kevin Cooper and Wyatt won their second straight match, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2. The other doubles team of Gerhardt-Unfer suffered the lone Warrior defeat taking the match to three sets.
