14 Earn Departmental Awards
Maine West's faculty presented the nineteenth annual departmental awards during the Honors Assembly this morning. Thirteen departments gave one award each while two departments split their awards, honoring a total of 14 seniors.
Although each department has its own criteria for a departmental award, they all have several requirements in common. To win an award from any department, a student must have studied in that department for four years and have received consistently high grades in that subject area. Accelerated status within the department, though an advantage, is not required.
Recognition as a departmental award winner is one of the highest honors given a senior at Maine West. As Principal James Coburn asserted, "Generally speaking, each of these students has emerged as the most outstanding student to represent a given department. Students selected have been chosen by the faculty and truly deserve our sincere congratulations for their academic achievements."
