VOL. XIX, NO. 13
Mary Copeland was named the most valuable player on the Maine West fencing team. It is the second year that Mary has won this award.
During her years at Maine West, Mary has been very active in both sports and music. Along with her activity as a fencer, Mary was on the basketball team her sophomore and junior years. She has also participated on the softball team where this year she is a starter in the outfield. Mary has also been a member of West Women Club for the past three years.
Mary has done exceptionally well as a fencer. At the end of June, she will represent Illinois in the national tournament. Mary qualified for the high school state tournament held in Champaign earlier this year. Outside of school, Mary has continued her outstanding fencing. She is one of the three fencers from the 12‑state Midwest Sectional who will represent the area at the national tournament.
