West Students Nominated For MacDonald's Band
Two Students from Maine West were chosen out of 91 preparatory musicians as nominees for the 1977 MacDonald's All‑American High School Band. They are Scott Bolman '79 and Robert Davis '78. The band performed last year in Macey's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York and in the Rose Bowl activities in California.

School Holiday

No school is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 10. This is in celebration of Columbus Day. It will give us a three‑day weekend. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 11

Scholarships Offered

All high school seniors are eligible to participate in Century III Leaders scholarship program. About $116,500 in scholarships will be offered with $10,000 being the top prize. Each applicant will take a current events examination on Oct. 19 and submit a theme centered on the question, what you believe will be the needs and challenges of the U.S. as we enter the third century and how we will address these needs. PSAT‑NMSQT

The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/ National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT / NMSQT) will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The registration deadline is Oct. 14. Pay $2.75 in the bookstore and see Mr. Killam in the guidance office for any questions. Homecoming Events

The week of Oct. 13-22 will begin the Homecoming festivities. This year's theme is "Circus, Circus." The first part of the week will be centered around float building and preparation. Oct. 20 will bring the parade, pep rally, tug of war, and announcement of the queen. The Homecoming football game against Glenbrook South will be on Oct. 21. Following the football game is the alumni open house. Ending the Homecoming Week will be the dance on Oct. 22 in the auditorium. Tickets will be on sale Tuesday in the bookstore.
