VOL. XIX, NO. 2
Tryouts for the '77-78 freshmen cheerleaders were held on Sept. 15 in the A-wing gym. Forty-five girls tried out, but only eight got to be chosen.
The new freshmen cheerleaders are Nancy Boryca, Lisa Cacciatore, Laura Fisher, Renee Kasarzecki, Joanne Mukai, Sophie Rubino, Sylvia Suarez, and Pam Thompson.
The girls were judged on their pep, appearance, and voice. The judging panel consisted of faculty members and some of the girls from the senior varsity cheerleading squad.
The requirements for tryouts were two cheers, a cartwheel-split combination, and two jumps. Each girl was also required to perform two sideline cheers for the judges.
The girls found out in a most unusual way if they were selected for the squad. Girls from the varsity squad went to each of the girl's homes, picked them up and took them to a party so they could all get acquainted.
This year the freshmen cheerleaders have new uniforms. The uniform skirts were late in arriving due to an error made by the shipping company. The skirts were sent to the wrong school causing them to arrive late for the first game.
