Golfers Defeat Glenbrook
Maine West's varsity golf team boosted its record to 2-4 by defeating Glenbrook North, 161-163, Thursday, Sept. 27. The Glenbrook North golfers had been undefeated before the meet.

Mike Franklin had the lowest score for West with a 38. Mike Zilleox - 39, Steve Grueter - 41, and Gary Struck - 43 also completed the scoring. Gary Struck also scored lowest with a 37 in the Sept. 26 away meet against Maine South, which the Warriors lost by five strokes, 161-166.

Golf coach, Mr. Eugene Zuccarini, is enthusiastic about the prospects for the team. "The varsity members are getting much better," he asserted. "I am well pleased." He did add however, that the golfers must continue to improve if they want to place in the district and conference meets this month. "The caliber of competition in our district is very high," Mr. Zuccarini stated. "It will take an exceptional effort from everybody if we are going to place."
The South Division conference meet will be played at Lake Bluff golf course Oct. 12 to determine the conference championship. Schools competing with Maine West in the meet include Glenbrook South, Glenbrook North, Maine East, Maine South, Niles West, and Waukegan East.

The Warrior golfers will then participate in the district meet Oct. 13 at the Winnetka course in Skokie. The top three teams, as well as the top three individual golfers, will compete in the sectional match. Two of the sectional participants will then advance to the state competition.

Meanwhile, the sophomore golfers have amassed a creditable 7-4 record so far this season. Low scorers in recent matches include Jim Lindeman with a 43 against Wheeling on Sept. 27, and Nori Suzuki with a 43 against Maine South on Sept. 26 and a 37 against Glenbrook North on Sept. 21. "Although the sophomores have room for improvement," stated Mr. Zuccarini, "they are getting better and will give next year's varsity members stiff competition for positions."
