Gridmen Lose Close
Contest at Elgin
The Maine West varsity gridmen are facing a tough Glenbrook North squad tonight at 8 p.m. Tonight's home match with the Spartans marks the Warriors' second conference match as West is 1-0 in conference play and 2-2 overall.

Last Friday night the Warriors met a powerful Elgin team in the rain and came away with an 8-0 defeat. Elgin is ranked fourth in the state and had whipped all their previous opponents by 20 points or better. Bad breaks and the weather seemed to cause the Warriors' defeat as Elgin's lone score came in the first period on a 33-yard sweep play. Twice Maine West had the ball inside the Maroon's 20-yard line, but fumbles ended West's scoring threats on both occasions. The defense was outstanding, shutting down the powerful Maroon attack. Defensive standouts were Jose Dieppa and Ken Quinn.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, the Warriors met Waukegan East at Waukegan. The Warriors showed a powerful running attack as they trounced East 34-20. Bob Aslan had 220 yards rushing and three touchdowns as the offensive line, consisting of center Kent Froelicher, guards Ron Daul and Scott Pippen, and tackles Kurt Kunze and Tom Frazier, continued to open large holes in the East defense.
Maine West didn't punt the entire afternoon, scoring all but three times they had the ball. Waukegan was held to just one touchdown in the first half and two through four quarters, as their final score came on the last play of the game.

Outstanding on offense were Ron Rausch, with two touchdowns, and Aslan. On defense, Jose Dieppa had 10 unassisted tackles, and Ken Quinn did well.

On the sophomore level the Warriors bring a 1-0 conference record and a 2-2 overall record into tonight's game. Last Friday, West lost a tough one 28-20 to Elgin. A fumble in the Maine West end zone with 30 seconds left in the game caused the Warriors' demise. Points were scored on a pass from Mark Voss to Perry Carlini and runs by Voss and Mario Delafeld.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, West defeated Waukegan 14-6. Points were scored by Delafeld and Voss. Delafeld also had a key interception which caused the Warriors' final tally.

On the frosh level the A-team defeated Waukegan East, 24-16. Scott Becker scored on a 20-yard run for the Warriors but broke his leg as he was tackled in the end zone. Kevin Clifford also scored twice for West. The B-team lost to Waukegan 24--0.
