Harriers To Run At Ridgewood
The varsity cross country team will compete in the highly regarded Ridgewood Invitational tomorrow at 10 am. The varsity team tuned up for tomorrow's meet by running in the Oak Park Invitational last Saturday, Oct. 1. Overall the Warriors finished in fourth place.
The varsity team finished ninth in their division. The top varsity runners were Dave Ahlman, twenty‑third; Morris Danielson, forty‑first; Jukka Kalli, fifty-third; Ron Pawelko, fifty-seventh; Kent Towler, sixty-third; Brian Swartswalter, ninety‑seventh; and Kevin Murray, one‑hundred‑first. The junior varsity team finished fifth in their division. The top JV finisher was Jon Keith in sixteenth place. Following were John Cudahy, twentieth; Tim Mack, twenty‑seventh; Bob Schultz, thirty‑eighth; Steve Losey, forty-third; George Larson, fifty‑fifth; and Ken Lenhard, sixty‑fourth.
The sophomore team finished in fourth place, while the freshmen had an excellent day by finishing second in their division. Coach Bill Barringer was pleased with his team's performance and is "looking forward to some of the upcoming tougher meets."
The Warriors hosted a tri-meet on Thursday, Oct. 27. Their opponents were Glenbrook North, Niles West, and Lane Tech. The varsity defeated Niles North, 17-44, but lost to Glenbrook North and Lane Tech, both by a 32-23 score.
The top varsity runners were Morris Danielson, seventh; Ron Pawelko, eighth; Jukka Kallio, tenth; Kent Towler, seventeenth; Bob Fischer, nineteenth; Jon Keith, twenty‑third; and John Cudahy, twenty‑ninth.
Other varsity runners were Tim Mack, Brian Swartswakter, Ken Kenhard, Bob Schultz, Kevin Murray, Don Glass, and Jeff Wilhelm.
The sophomores were victorious over Niles West, 15-20, and Lane Tech, 20-41, but were defeated by Glenbrook North, 29-28. The freshmen were victorious over all three opponents, beating Glenbrook North, 23-33, Niles North, 15-48, and Lane Tech, 16-47.
