President Designates A.E.W.
"Working Together for Education" is the theme for the nationwide 1977 American Education Week being held Nov. 13‑19.

The American Education Week is held to make people aware of the good things happening in the schools. Initiated in 1921, it is sponsored by the National Education Association, the American Legion, the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, and the U.S. Office of Education.
President Jimmy Carter signed a proclamation recognizing the week of Nov. 13 as National Education Week and encouraged every American to do what he can "to help America prepare its youngsters to meet the responsibilities they will some day assume."

"American Education Week is a week set aside to acknowledge and honor the school system and to strengthen the understanding and communication between each school and the community it serves," said Mr. John Graef, assistant principal and former chairman of the American Education Week at Maine West.
