Dist. 207 Makes Movie For
Diamond Jubilee
This year, Maine Township District 207 is celebrating its seventy‑fifth anniversary. A film has been made to commemorate this special occasion.
The film is in color and is 16 minutes long. The idea for a commemorative film was thought up by Mr. George Blanas, chairman of the Maine West Art Department. All the cinematography, or filming, was done by Kevin Dole, a 1968 graduate of Maine West.
Thacker School, the original school in District 207, is featured in the beginning of the film. This school dates back to 1902. These are actual pictures of the building and the students from Thacker School. The film moves through the years showing the construction of the four other schools. It, through the use of visual images, allows us to see the students through the decades. There is no narration of the film. The different segments of the film are tied together with music of the period.
Material for the film was obtained in numerous ways. Old yearbooks, films, and the Des Plaines and Park Ridge Historical Societies provided some useful information. Some material was taken from the film, "Maine in Action," the film made for the anniversary in 1939.
Mr. Blanas feels, "The film has to be seen more than once. I see something different every time I see it. The schools, kids, and communities are the main features of the film." Jinda Jung '79 remarked, "The film is really excellent. I think everyone will like it.''
Many other things are being done for the anniversary celebration. The Concert Choirs of the four high schools will combine at Maine East on Nov. 9 for a choral concert. The themes of all the schools' Homecomings have something to do with the Diamond Jubilee, Exhibits, concerts, and other special programs will also be dedicated to the anniversary. All these events will combine to make the celebration a very special occasion.
