Archers' Place 5th At State Meet
This year's girls' archery team concludes the season with a record of 8-1. The team placed second in the invitational and captured first in district competition which qualified them for state competition.
On Oct. 6 the archers hosted the Central Suburban Meet with six teams participating. The team standings were as follows: Glenbrook North (2,471), Maine West (2,365), Lake Park (2,255), Fenton (2,127), Ridgewood (1,975), and Niles East (1,743).
Trophies were awarded to Sharon Vaughn with a score of 635 and Cindy Tomaszewski with a 609.
This year's district meet held in Ridgewood on Oct. 10 was won by the Maine West archers. This win qualified them for the State Tournament. Individual winners for Maine were Sharon Vaughn first, 656; Cindy Tomaszewski third, 578; Holly Hamilton fourth, 575; and Mary O'Donnell, 575.
Others who contributed to the winning score were Ann Vaccarello and Margie Hahn.
At this year's state competition the archers placed fifth with a score of 4,759. The tournament was held on Oct. 14 and 15 at Eastern Illinois University.
