Warriors To Face Glenbrook South
The Maine West varsity gridmen will host the second place Glenbrook South Titans tonight at 8 p.m. Glenbrook South is 2-1 in conference play including a 47-6 win over Waukegan East last week.
Maine West has a very tough schedule remaining the rest of the season. They must beat state ranked Glenbrook South, than Maine South, and host ranked Maine East in order to be Central Suburban‑South Conference champions. That will make Maine West eligible for downstate competition, the goal of every player on the team.
Last Saturday afternoon the Warriors met a respectable Niles West team and was shut out, 22-0. In the last three games the Maine West offense has produced only 7 points, while yielding 62 points to the opposition.
Niles West started capitalizing on Warrior mistakes early in the second quarter. Quarterback John Coursey and running‑back Jim Dibasilio lead the attack for Niles West, scoring 16 points before halftime. The highlight for Maine West was Tim Richardson's kickoff return deep into Niles West territory. Jose Dieppa and Vince Webster gave outstanding performances.
On Friday, Oct. 7, the Warriors met Glenbrook North at home. On a rain drenched field Glenbrook North won 32-7. Vince Webster scored on a 46-yard run for Maine West's only score of the night. Glenbrook took the lead for good soon afterwards when fullback Chris Larson scored the first of his five touchdowns in the game. Larson carried the Glenbrook North team single handedly over the Warriors. Rushing for 205 yards on 23 carries, he gained more yardage than the entire Maine West team. The game was a toss-up for the first half with Glenbrook North leading 12-7. But the rest of the game was all Glenbrook North winning finally 32-7.
Against Niles West the Maine West sophomore gridmen were victorious, again winning 28-12. On the frosh level Maine West destroyed Niles West, 24-0.
