Harriers Finish Strong
The varsity cross country team will be running tomorrow in the conference meet to be held at Niles West at 10 a.m. Maine South, Maine East, and Glenbrook North will be among the toughest to beat. But Coach Bill Barringer has high hopes for the meet and says the Maine East team "has looked good the last two meets."

The Warriors traveled to Maine South on Oct. 4. There the freshmen were victorious over Maine South by a score of 19-41. The sophomores also won by a score of 15-50, but the varsity were defeated by Maine South, 28-30. The leading runner were Morris Danielson, fourth; Dave Ahlman, fifth; Jukka Kallio, sixth; Kent Towler, seventh; and Ron Pawelko, ninth.

The sophomores took the second place trophy home from the 21‑team Ridgewood Invitational on Oct. 8. Tim Wesley led the team to a great finish by taking eleventh place. Other runners were Bob Fisher, sixteenth; Frank Hruban, twenty‑third; Dwight Bohne, twenty‑seventh; and Jeff Walsh, thirty‑first. The varsity placed fourth with Dave Ahlman, fifteenth; Morris Danielson, twentieth; Jukka Kallio, thirtysecond; Ron Pawelko, thirty-sixth; and Kent Towler, fortyninth.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, Maine West hosted a tri‑meet against Waukegan East and Taft. The freshmen were victorious over both teams and so were the varsity, but the sophomores split the victory by beating Taft and losing to Waukegan East.

The varsity had a good day taking the first five places: Dave Ahlman, first; Morris Danielson, second; Jukka Kallio, third; Ron Pawelko, fourth; and Kent Towler, fifth.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, Maine West ran against Wheeling in a dual meet. The freshmen beat Wheeling 22-37; the sophomores won 15-48; but the varsity was defeated, 32-23.
