Kickers Lose First Conference Match
The varsity soccer team started conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 5, losing to Waukegan East by a score of 2-1. The lone goal was scored by Greg Bosco. A cold and rainy night only added to Maine West's problems as the Warriors dropped a 5-2 decision to Glenbrook North. Goals by Bill Schutz and Jim Carlstrom were not enough to overcome the powerful Glenbrook team.

Wednesday night the varsity faced a tough Maine South squad. Maine West scored only two minutes into the game, but by the end of the first quarter South was ahead 3-1. With 15 minutes remaining in the game a fight broke out between the two rival teams. Both benches emptied, but no one was seriously injured. The referee proceeded to end the game, preventing further fighting. Dennis O'Toole scored West's only goal.

On the sophomore level the Warriors lost to Maine South last week, 5-0. By the end of the first quarter West was down 2-0 and never could get back in the game. In past games the sophomores have dropped decisions to Evanston, 3-0, and Glenbrook North, 6-0.
Forest View and Waukegan East have been victims of the Warriors by scores of 1-0 and 3-0. Chris Grzebeniak had the deciding goal against Forest View and also contributed a goal against Waukegan East. The other two goals were scored by Tim Fillipp. An outstanding performance by Bob McCann contributed to the victory for the sophomores.

Freshmen have had their problems so far this year. The Warriors have not scored yet in conference play losing to Maine South, 7-0, Glenbrook North, 3-0, and ending in a 0-0 deadlock against Waukegan East. A weak defense has also hurt the freshmen's performance. In non-conference games freshmen handed defeats to Forest View, 3-1, and Evanston, 1-0. The New Trier West contest ended in a 2-2 tie.

Maine West will face Glenbrook South tomorrow morning with the sophomore team starting at 9:30 and varsity at 11 here. The freshmen play away at 9:30.
