Coach Freeman Is Chosen Basketball Coach of Year
Maine West varsity basketball Coach Gaston Freeman has been chosen as the Illinois High School Class AA Basketball Coach of the Year for 1976-77. Coach Freeman was selected from a large group of Illinois prep basketball coaches from the Association Executive Committee. Coach Freeman said, "I feel this is a team honor. I'd like to share this with the people of the Des Plaines, the athletes, and my staff." Last year Coach Freeman won his five hundredth game since starting to coach in 1959.

CHRISTMAS FORMAL

"Deep in December will be held Saturday, Dec. 17, in the auditorium. Tickets are $4 per couple and are sold in the bookstore. The band, Cottonmouth, will play at the dance.

STUDENT COUNCIL DELIVERS CHRISTMAS CARDS

Have your Christmas cards delivered to your favorite boy or girl by the Student Council. Students are to bring their cards to the Student Council office during the week of Dec. 5-9. The delivery will be Dec. 12-19 in homeroom.

PENNY DRIVE

On Nov. 28 and 29 Student Council will be collecting pennies in the cafeteria. The money will go to a charity, and the class with the most pennies will have a pie thrown in their class president's face.
CUSTODIAN DIES

Mr. Ernie Drews, a Maine West custodian, was killed Monday, Nov. 7, in a hunting accident near Grand Rapids, Minnesota. Services were held Nov. 11 at Oehler's Funeral Home in Des Plaines.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

Artists Unlimited will hold a Christmas Bazaar Dec. 8 and 9 during periods 8, 9, and after school. Everyone in the club helps make the items that are for sale. They will sell such things as ceramics, plants, Christmas ornaments, cards, candles, and terrariums. Samples of these items will be shown near the main entrance.

THANKSGIVING VACATION

Classes will not be held Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Classes will resume on Monday.

QUARTER ENDS

The first quarter ended Nov. 10. The second quarter will end on Jan. 27.
